Trump Promises $5,000 Payments to Americans If Republicans Win 2026 Midterms

US President Donald Trump on October 4, 2026 promised to give every adult American $5,000 if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress in the November 3 midterm elections.

The $5,000 pledge

Trump made the pledge in a video statement posted on his official X account, crediting Republican leadership with strong economic performance and record investment in the United States.

"If Republicans win the House of Representatives and the Senate, I'm going to give all adult citizens in the United States of America $5,000," Trump said.

He said the payments would be possible because the US government was collecting "massive amounts of money through tariffs." Trump did not provide details on funding, total cost, or required legislation.

He warned that a Democratic victory would bring higher taxes and economic disaster: "It'll be a 1929 disaster if they get in... If the Republicans win, you will each have $5,000 in your pocket."

Trump rallied for Republican candidates in Vandalia, Ohio on October 3, telling supporters he believes there will be a "big surprise" in the midterms. He rallied for Senator Jon Husted and gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

"Just get out and vote," Trump said. "If you do that, we're going to win, and we're going to win big."

Iran: "easy way or hard way"

Speaking outside the White House on October 4, Trump said Washington would soon decide its next steps toward Iran, warning Tehran faces "the easy way or the hard way." He said Iran had been "decimated" but gave no timeline for action.

Trump previously said the conflict would end "very quickly" and predicted oil prices would "drop like a rock" once it does.

Trump on October 4 named lawyer John Coale as special presidential envoy for hostage affairs. Coale has secured the return of over 65 Americans from Belarus and negotiated the release of more than 800 political prisoners, Trump said on Truth Social.
